Full Moon in Scorpio

Welcome to the VERY FIRST Florascope reading, where we translate the current astrology into floral arrangements!

To anyone who knows astrology, it may seems like a odd choice to launch this new endeavor under the current sky. For one, the moon is said to be in its fall in Scorpio, meaning that it struggles to access its natural gifts of intuition, emotional sensitivity, and nurturance. Full moons are also associated with culminations - not beginnings. But this is not technically the beginning of Florascopes for me - it’s the culmination of daydreams I’ve had for YEARS. And as a Libra rising, Scorpio rules my 2nd house of talents and resources. So truly, there couldn’t be a better time to shine a light on the marriage of two of my favorite things - plants and astrology.

Now that I’ve introduced Florascopes, it’s time to introduce the full moon:

The Moon

This moon is sitting at 11 degrees of Scorpio, a sign heavily associated with transformation. Why? Scorpio is a fixed water sign. Unlike the cardinal water sign, Cancer, which is associated with the tides, and the mutable water sign, Pisces, which is associated with the sea, the waters of Scorpio have no movement. Zero. And what do you get in fixed, unmoving water? Wetlands, baby! Scorpio’s are the wetlands of the zodiac (positive connotation) with thriving subterranean ecosystems that alchemize one thing into another. Water signs are associated with emotions, and in a deep, penetrating sign like Scorpio, those emotions take on a flavor of passion, desire, and power dynamics.

Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation, which is currently stationed in Aquarius. If Leo is all about me, me, me, its opposite sign, Aquarius, is all about we, we, we. Aquarius is the sign of the collective, with a knack for mental detachment in order to remove ego and see the whole more clearly. With Pluto in this sign, we’re seeing deep transformation in the collective, or in our own insights or intellect.

Let’s put it all together:

The full moon in Scorpio is illuminating feelings that run below the surface (ie. subconscious thought patterns, necessary changes you’ve been avoiding). It’s making a square to Pluto, spurring us into action to make deep, lasting transformation. This full moon is emotional, but it doesn’t want you to stay there - it wants you to use that aquarian mental compartmentalization to find a logical solution to an emotion problem. What is overdue for the compost and ready to be alchemized into something new?

Just a quick note - In the future, these readings will have a picture of a real floral arrangement you can purchase to accompany the reading. Until then, these flower inspiration palettes show what a future arrangement might include.

The Flowers

For this full moon arrangement, we’re leaning into the Scorpionic theme of transformation - composting something old and rotten into rich soil from which new life can spring. While there are plenty of plant materials that fit the theme (especially in the fall) I’m trying to stay true to season in the Northeast.

Mushrooms

Yes, you can put mushrooms in arrangements! No one told you? They sell them wholesale on little sticks, it’s very cute. Mushrooms are associated with Pluto, the planet of transformation.

Witchazel

Witchazel branches were once used as divining rods to locate underground water sources, which feels very Scorpio coded - Scorpio being a water sign heavily associated with subterranean emotional matters. There’s also “witch” in the name - and what is a witch, if not someone who harnesses their power to transform their surroundings to their liking? Very plutonian, very scorpionic.

Hellebore

The color of these black hellebores capture Scorpio’s deep, intense energy. They love rich, woodland soil where the humus layer is thick. They’re one of the first perennials to bloom in early spring, representing new life from the compost.

Anemone

For the moon. The soft, delicate, white petals are in sharp contrast to the deep, black-blue center - another color associated with Scorpio.
